Lymphatic Drainage Massage in Fort Worth

Reduce Swelling. Improve Fluid Movement. Feel Better.

Lymphatic drainage massage is a gentle, specialized form of bodywork designed to support the natural movement of lymphatic fluid throughout the body.

At HADL Clinical Bodywork in Fort Worth, we use targeted lymphatic drainage techniques for clients experiencing swelling, fluid retention, post-surgical swelling, sinus congestion and swelling associated with certain sports injuries.

Unlike deep tissue massage, lymphatic drainage doesn't require heavy pressure. The lymphatic vessels being targeted are relatively superficial, which is why light, rhythmic and precisely directed movements are used.

Whether swelling is affecting an arm, leg, joint or another area, your session is customized around where fluid is accumulating and why you're experiencing it.

What Is Lymphatic Drainage Massage?

Your lymphatic system helps collect and transport excess fluid from tissues throughout the body.

When fluid accumulates faster than it can be cleared, you may notice swelling, puffiness, tightness or a feeling of heaviness.

Lymphatic drainage massage uses gentle, repetitive movements intended to encourage lymphatic fluid movement toward appropriate drainage pathways.

This is very different from traditional massage.

Lymphatic drainage is not about pushing harder. It's about directing fluid appropriately.

What Can Lymphatic Drainage Help With?

People seek lymphatic drainage for many different reasons.

At HADL Clinical Bodywork, sessions may be appropriate for:

  • Swelling and fluid retention

  • Feelings of heaviness or puffiness

  • Swelling following certain orthopedic surgeries

  • Swelling associated with certain sports injuries

  • Facial and sinus congestion

  • Localized swelling following injury

  • Supporting normal lymphatic fluid movement

The techniques and areas treated are determined by the reason you're receiving lymphatic drainage.

Post-Surgical Lymphatic Drainage

Gentle Swelling Support After Orthopedic Surgery

Swelling is a normal part of the body's healing response following many orthopedic procedures.

Our post-surgical lymphatic drainage in Fort Worth is intended for appropriate clients recovering from orthopedic or medically necessary procedures who have been cleared for massage and continue to experience swelling during recovery.

This may include procedures involving the:

  • Shoulder

  • Knee

  • Hip

  • Ankle

  • Foot

  • Elbow

  • Hand or wrist

For example, after shoulder surgery, swelling may extend into the upper arm, forearm or hand.

Rather than aggressively working directly over healing tissue, lymphatic techniques can focus on appropriate pathways to encourage fluid movement while respecting the recovering surgical area.

Post-Surgical Massage Shouldn't Be Aggressive

More pressure isn't better when dealing with post-operative swelling.

Treatment is adapted according to the procedure, stage of healing, location of swelling and restrictions provided by your physician or physical therapist.

Lymphatic drainage complements appropriate medical rehabilitation—it does not replace your surgeon, physician or physical therapist.

HADL Clinical Bodywork's post-surgical lymphatic services are focused on orthopedic and medical recovery. We do not provide cosmetic post-operative massage following liposuction or body-contouring procedures.

Sinus Lymphatic Drainage

Gentle Bodywork for Facial Fullness and Congestion

Facial and sinus congestion can create uncomfortable pressure and a feeling of heaviness throughout the face.

Our sinus lymphatic drainage in Fort Worth uses gentle techniques around the face, neck and surrounding lymphatic pathways.

Treatment may include the:

  • Forehead

  • Cheeks

  • Jaw

  • Areas surrounding the nose

  • Neck

  • Upper chest and collarbone region

These tissues don't require aggressive pressure.

Movements are generally light, slow and deliberate, with attention given to the lymphatic pathways surrounding the face and neck.

This service may be appropriate for people experiencing a sensation of facial fullness or congestion, including during seasonal changes.

Sinus lymphatic drainage does not treat infections or replace appropriate medical care. Fever, significant facial swelling, severe pain or suspected infection should be medically evaluated.

Sports Injury Lymphatic Drainage

A Gentler Approach to Swelling During Recovery

Not every sports injury needs deep tissue massage.

Sprains, strains, contusions and other soft-tissue injuries can produce swelling as part of the body's normal inflammatory response.

During this stage, aggressively working directly into an injured area may be inappropriate.

Our sports injury lymphatic drainage in Fort Worth provides a gentler approach when swelling is part of the problem.

Depending on the injury and stage of recovery, lymphatic techniques may be considered for swelling associated with certain:

  • Ankle sprains

  • Knee injuries

  • Muscle strains

  • Contusions

  • Joint injuries

  • Exercise-related soft-tissue injuries

  • Localized post-injury swelling

Treatment That Changes as You Recover

The treatment you need immediately after an injury may be completely different from what you need several weeks later.

When appropriate, early treatment may emphasize gentle lymphatic techniques and swelling management.

As healing progresses, treatment may transition toward addressing muscular restriction, mobility and eventually athletic performance.

Lymphatic Drainage → Clinical Bodywork → Mobility → Advanced Sports Massage

This allows your treatment to evolve with your recovery rather than applying aggressive techniques too early.

Is Lymphatic Drainage the Same as Deep Tissue Massage?

No.

Deep tissue massage generally uses more pressure to address muscular tension and restrictions.

Lymphatic drainage uses considerably lighter pressure because the goal is different.

If the primary issue is muscular tightness, deep tissue or sports massage may be more appropriate.

If swelling and fluid accumulation are the primary concerns, lymphatic drainage may be the better approach.

At HADL Clinical Bodywork, we'll focus the session on what you're actually trying to address rather than automatically applying the same massage technique to everyone.

How Much Pressure Is Used?

Lymphatic drainage should generally feel gentle.

Applying substantially more pressure doesn't necessarily improve lymphatic drainage and may work against the purpose of the technique.

Your therapist uses controlled, rhythmic movements based on the area being treated and the reason for the swelling.

This is one treatment where harder definitely doesn't mean better.
